For haulage and container transport operators, this is not simply a preference for paper or an app. It is a decision about how reliably proof of delivery (POD) moves from the delivery point into job management, customer communication and invoicing.

A paper delivery note gives a driver a physical document to present at collection or delivery. The consignee signs it, the driver retains a copy, and the original or scanned copy eventually returns to the office. It is familiar, flexible and does not depend on a charged device or mobile signal.
A digital delivery note captures the same operational information electronically, usually through a driver mobile workflow connected to transport management software. The driver can record the delivery time, recipient name, signature, exceptions, photographs and supporting comments while standing at the delivery point. Offline capability is valuable for operators working across inconsistent coverage. The driver should be able to capture the POD without signal and submit it once a connection returns. Equally, maintain a controlled paper contingency for genuine failures. The goal is not to ban paper at all costs. It is to stop paper from becoming the default source of truth.
